The third chapter has a darker aesthetic and chronogically is set between the events of the 2 predecessors; the button layout was changed with 3 buttons used for low,medium and strong attacks and another for kicks. Two selectable versions of each character, Slash closer to the previous games and Bust more aggressive and with new moves, were also introduced.
Samurai Spirits III was released only in Japan.
