Earthion is a side scrolling shoot’em up currently in development by Ancient in collaboration with Yuzo Koshiro (music composer of Actraiser, Street of Rage and Etrian Odyssey series) that is planned to be released in 2024 for Megadrive/Genesis.
The game is a tribute to the shoot’em up genre from 80’s and 90’s with several graphics effects like a Earth that slowly rotates under the game logo in the Main Screen or several parallax effects that remind Thunder Force IV, one of the best shoot’em up made for Megadrive.
The music and sound effects composed by Yuzo Koshiro also utilise the Yamaha YM2612, a six channel sound chip that was built into Megadrive, to recreate the typical sound of the 16 bit console made by SEGA.
Today Superdeluxe has announced that a physical release is planned for 2024 but it was not clarified if they will release a game for Megadrive or for new systems like Switch and PlayStation 5 or even for all of them, we await for further communications from the Japanese publisher.
