Super Switch will be the official name of the new long awaited new console, Nintendo announced this early morning.
“Today is the beginning of the 2024 fiscal year and we want to start with a great announce in order to make happy our shareholders” Nintendo’s president Furukawa said.
“Following our history, Famicom was our first success in the videogame market and when we introduced Super Famicom we consolidate our leadership, so regarding the name of Switch successor me and Shigeru (Miyamoto, editorial note) thought “why not ??” and decided to call the new system Super Switch” Furukawa added.
Most of the interest was focused on the technical specifications of the new console especially regarding the graphic capabilities.
Super Switch will use a GPU featuring 3072 shading units, 96 texture mapping units, and 48 ROPs with 24 raytracing acceleration cores. The system will have 8 GB GDDR6 memory which are connected using a 128-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 1830 MHz, which can be boosted up to 2460 MHz while the memory is running at 2125 MHz (17 Gbps effective).
When asked, Furukawa said “Yes, you are not wrong, these are the specifications of NVIDIA 4060 graphic cards, sales were a disaster so we contacted them and we made an offer to rid them of the unsold stock. Not only did they accept but they even gave us a 55% discount !!!“
Regarding the release date, Furukawa was quite vague “It will be released when it’s ready, this time we really want to surpass PlayStation 2 as the best-selling console of all time and give them a lesson“.
But before ending the interview Furukawa hinted that they will make a Direct that will announce when they make a Direct that will announce a Direct about Super Switch’s release date so we can expect further news in the incoming Directs.
