SEGA announces new Jet Set Radio and other games from old IP

SEGA new projects

SEGA has announced today during “The Game Awards 2023” a new project regarding some of their popular games released in the past.

This project is made to allow younger generations to approach classic SEGA games with a revamped graphics and gameplay.
Here is what SEGA COO Shuji Utsumi said :
In recent years, “Sonic the Hedgehog” has undergone various developments, including the success of the game, and has gained new fans around the world; building on this success, we are breathing new life into our IP and developing new games for gamers around the world.
Today’s announcement is just the beginning of a project that will reinvent SEGA’s rich assets. First and foremost, we are committed to creating great games with memorable characters and worlds. We hope fans of all generations can look forward to these games and projects as they develop over the next few years
“.

The titles showed in the trailer are some classic IP from SEGA that didn’t see a sequel since the Dreamcast time or even more :

Crazy Taxi
A driving action game that first appeared in arcades in 1999 and has been ported to home game consoles including the Dreamcast, and many series have been released.
Featuring dynamic driving and exhilarating car action that is different from traditional racing games, as the player drives through the city to deliver passengers to their destinations.

Golden Axe
First appeared as an arcade title in 1989 and then ported to Megadrive, followed by two sequels and a spin-off released on Saturn, has received high praise for its attractive depiction of a fantasy world, including powerful magic performances that cover the screen and dragon riding.

Jet Set Radio
A street action game released for Dreamcast in 2000 while a sequel arrived on Xbox.
Run around the fictional “Tokyo-to” on inline skates, filling the city with graffiti. The game’s new and unique graphics and original gameplay have been highly praised at the time of its release.

Shinobi
SEGA’s most representative action series, with more than 10 titles released since its arcade debut in 1987.
Various rivals such as robots, mutants, and giant monsters appear in the battle between modern-day ninjas and the criminal organizations and ninja corps that rule the dark world. 

Street of Rage
Fighting action game that debuted on the home game console Megadrive in 1991.
In order to restore peace to the city, ex-cops Axel and Blaze take on the evil syndicate. The game system, which features a variety of techniques, and the rhythmic sound gained popularity. The 4th installment in the series, released in 2020 for the first time in 26 years, became sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide.

The teaser trailer shows short gameplay sequences of all games and at the end the trailer suggests that not only these IP will have new titles but also others are planned in the future.
