PS5 gets a price discount in Japan

Sony has announced today a new campaign for PlayStation 5: from today and until 13 March both regular and digital versions will have a discount price.

This is the first time since its release that PlayStation 5 got a price discount, while since the debut the price have been increased 3 times.
The promotion follows the release of Monster Hunter Wilds and clearly it’s made to promote sales sales that have shrunk since the latest price increase, passing from an average of 25,000 units per week to 13,000 units (and including the recent PS5 Pro).

The price for regular version changes from 79,980 yen (around 513 euros) to 72,980 yen (around 468 euros) while the digital version for 2 weeks will be available for 65,980 yen (423 euros) instead of 72,980 yen (468 euros).
As already mentioned, the price of the recently released PlayStation 5 Pro is not included in the promotion.

Actually there was also a bundle with Monster Hunter Wilds that was priced 79,980 yen but seems like it’s already sold out in all major online store nationwide, and it’s not a surprise considering for the same original price of the console you can get the game for free (the price is around 9,000 yen).

It will be interesting in the next week see if this campaign has helped PlayStation 5 sales and if so, see if this could lead to an official price drop in the future.
