PS2 Pro announced by Jim Ryan

PS2 Pro has been surprisingly announced today by Jim Ryan.

Sony’s president which will be resign from today, 1 April 2024, has announced: “Today (in USA is still 31 March at the moment, editor note) is my last day as Sony’s president and I want to step back by giving an announcement that will positively change the videogame market for the incoming years“.

Ryan added “The best selling console ever will receive an updated version in order to let all the 160 million users that bought PlayStation 2 playing videogames in a better way“.

Ryan is very excited about this enhanced version of PlayStation 2, which was released in 2000. The new system will have a form factor similar to the original version and not the slim one, regarding to this aspect Ryan said “The original PS3 was the biggest console ever released and the original PS5 was another big piece of hardware, we like to make big and heavy consoles so we decided to keep the original PS2 form with bit a reminiscent of PS4“.

PS2 Pro will not have a DVD drive revision, Ryan stated “Nowadays even with a SSD a player has to wait at least 30 seconds to play so it’s not a big deal to wait a game being loaded from a DVD drive” while regarding the new features the USB expansion ports have been upgraded: “In 20 years technology has greatly improved so we are proud to announce that PS2 Pro will feature the new USB 2.0 connections, a big step ahead from the USB 1.1 included in the original model” Jim Ryan said.

Last Friday Jim Ryan announced that PlayStation 2 has passed 160 million units sold worldwide and he’s sure that with the release of the PlayStation 2 Pro it will be impossible for Switch to become the best selling console ever.
