The 3rd installment in the series was originally released for arcades at the end of 1996; based on ST-V hardware it was ported to Saturn just a couple of months later and remaines exclusive for the platform for more than 6 months.
The gameplay is more similar to the first title and introduced a new kind of puyo, Sun Puyo, which appears when the player clears the screen and it’s used to send a lot of garbage to the opponent.
Puyo Puyo Sun was released only in Japan.
