(PCE) Youkai Douchuuki

Action game by Namco originally released for arcades in 1987 (and known in the west as “Shadow Land), it was ported to PC Engine a year late.
The story is centered on Tarosuke, a boy who was sent to “jigoku” (Buddhist hell) and his journey to reach Yama, the deity that judges the dead.
There are 5 levels which represent different places of jigoku, at the end of them Tarosuke kneels at a shrine to summon a spirit called Monmotaro who will fight against the “oni” (demon).
Due to its particular background story Youkai Douchuuki was obviously released only in Japan.
