Released in 1997 first in arcades and a couple of months later on Neo Geo AES and Cd, KoF97 introduced two different play styles, Advanced and Extra.
Advanced was based on KoF96, with the Power Gauge filled by striking the opponent or performing a special move, Extra is based on KoF94 and 95, you can charge the Power Gauge or just defend yourself from opponent’s attacks.
Including 29 characters and 9 teams (2 were new), KoF97 was a big success and contributed to the expansion of the series.
