Previously announced at the beginning of August and showed to the public few weeks later at Tokyo Game Show 2022, Grim Guardians : Demon Purge is a 2D side scrolling action game developed by Inti Creates, known for Gunvolt series.
Starring 2 female demon hunters, Shinobu and Maya, who have to clear their old school from a horde of demoniac monsters.
While Shinobu uses a rapid-fire machine gun good for long range attacks, Maya can create various weapons from origami and is preferred for close range attacks; in single mode the player can switch both characters while the cooperative multiplayer presents both characters on the screen.
Defeating bosses will grant the player with some sub weapons which can be used not only for attack but also to reach previously inaccessible areas in the classic of Metroidvania style games.
There is also a super powerful combined “Purge attack” which can be performed when the Purge gauge is filled and allows to wipe out all the demons on the screen.
Grim Guardians will be released worldwide on February 2023 in digital form while the retail version is exclusive to Japan for Switch and PlayStation 5 and it’s planned for a month later, 23 March 2023.
A Limited edition will be also available and includes a cardboard box, an art book, the original soundtrack on CD and an acrylic keyholder.
