Famitsu has released its videogame sales chart for the week from 15 to 21 April 2024.
It was a matter of time and finally it happened, after climbing the rankings in the previous weeks, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (SWI) finally reached again the top spot with 11,585 units sold.
The runner-up was another title based on Mario’s World, Princess Peach: Showtime! (SWI) with 8,012 units sold.
In the third place, guess what? Another Mario game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder (SWI) with 7,470 units.
It was (another) slow week and only two titles released during the week reached the chart: ARK: Survival Ascended (PS5) with 4,127 units sold at #9 and Dokyusei: Bangin’ Summer (SWI) with 2,432 units sold at #20.
The bottom of the chart has very low numbers and this meant that Kirby and the Forgotten Land (SWI) re-entered into the chart with 1,395 units sold at #27 after 4 months (last appearance was dated December 2023) and it’s followed by Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet + The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero (SWI) with 1,387 units sold.
The total sales of the top 10 title hit a new low with 64,845 units sold.
This is not only the worst result in 2024 but going back to previous year, this is the 3rd lowest week ever in the last 5 years not only for top 10 combined sales but also for the top seller title:
1 – week from 20 to 26 May 2019 : top ten sales 54,444 units / top seller Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (SWI) with 8,662 units
2- week from 27 May to 2 June 2019 : top ten sales 57,327 units / top seller Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (SWI) with 9,087 units
3- week from 15 to 21 April 2021 : top ten sales 64,845 units / top seller Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (SWI) with 11,585 units
4- week from 13 to 19 May 2019 : top ten sales 67,078 units / top seller Y’s Memories of Celceta: Kai (PS4) with 13,895 units
Hardware side, the sales also had a contraction but Switch sales are still amazing.
The top seller system was Switch OLED with 50,602 units and was followed by PlayStation 5 with 16,149 units.
At the third place Switch Lite with 7,521 units is followed by Switch with 6,148 units and then PlayStation 5 Digital with 5,148 units.
Xbox Series X increased up to 2,149 units and Xbox Series S registered also a small increase with 640 units, while PlayStation 4 sold only 92 units.
