Famitsu has released its videogame sales chart for the week from 8 to 14 January 2024.
As usual the second week numbers see a huge drop after 5 weeks of great sales. Super Mario Bros. Wonder (SWI) took the top spot again with 25,523 units sold and the runner-up became Momotaro Dentetsu World (SWI) with 25,164 units sold while the third place is held by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PS5) with 18,867 units sold.
The second week of 2024 has the first new entries of the year: Football Manager 2024 sold 3,563 units on Switch (#16) and 1,770 units on PS5 (#29) while two titles re-entered in the chart: Ring Fit Adventure (SWI) with 2,996 units sold (#21) and Hogwarts Legacy (SWI) with 2,048 units sold (#27).
Globally almost all titles sold 1/3 of the units compared to the previous week, one of the exception is Spider-Man 2 but it’s due to the time limited bundle with PS5; the total sales of the top 10 is 120,784 units as confirms the general drop from the first week of the year (375,329 units sold).
Hardware side, there is also a drop with Switch OLED that sold less than half of the numbers of the previous week (29,524 units) while both PlayStation 5 (26,719 units) and PlayStation 5 Digital (9,787 units) are counting a slight decrease compared to Switch systems, which is going to turn 7 years on the market in a couple of months.
PlayStation 5 has a good line-up for the following months, starting from Yakuza 8 and Tekken 8, then in February Persona 3 Reload and FF7 Reverse and in March Rise of the Ronin and Dragon’s Dogma 2, so it will be interesting to see if sales will be solid for the following weeks.
