Famitsu weekly sales 18-24/7/2022

Japan weekly sales

Famitsu has published the software and hardware sales data for the last week (from 18 to 24 July).
The top seller was Live A Live for Switch, Square-Enix’s remake sold more than 70,000 physical units while another two titles entered the chart, both released for Switch and PS4 : Nobunaga’s Ambition : Rebirth (almost 45,000 physical units sold in total) and River City Saga: Three Kingdoms (less than 5,000 units in total).

The week in general was a little higher for sale compared to the previous one, this happened because the summer holidays for school are coming so kids have more time to spend with their beloved videogames while the first week of August corresponds to the Obon holiday and most offices are closing around the country.
The biggest drop are Demon Slayer, Mario Strikers and the budget release of Monster Hunter Rise, but while the latter sold even more than last week, Demon Slayer and Mario Strikers are among the few titles that have experienced a decline in sales this week.

Hardware side, the original Switch model hit the top spot with an increase of 6000 units sold while the OLED model had similar sales : this could be meaning that Nintendo didn’t provide more OLED units and stocking them for this week when Xenoblade 3 has been released, so it is very likely to see in next chart the OLED model getting back the top spot with a good margin.
A mention can be also made for Xbox Series X which passed from less than 800 units sold to almost 3,000 units sold last week, probably due to a restock and it’s a coincidence that PS5 sales last week declined by more than 1,000 units ?
