Spy Drops is a 3D action game with stealth elements being in development from Rainy Night Creation and being published by Rainy Frog.
Label as “modern retro stealth action” due to a low detailed polygon graphics that resembles the PlayStation era (similar to Signalis), the game is heavily inspired by Metal Gear Solid, the stealth action game from Hideo Kojima that amazed all the world in 1998.
Despite looking old, or retro, the graphic engine features latest effects such as lighting and shadows and the character design is made by Japanese acclaimed studio ArtePiazza.
As a member of the anti-terrorist team called “Spy Drops,” the player have to neutralize an eco-terrorist organization that is attempting to return the world’s environment to the Stone Age. However, as the game progresses, the plot reveals a deep conspiracy.
The mission contents and stages are randomly generated, allowing the player to choose the best suitable equipment, drones, night vision goggles, sniper rifles, stun guns, and explore strategies for each mission; furthermore new equipment will be developed as the game progresses.
Another feature in the game is that the player must get information from unconscious enemies, and since information cannot be obtained from corpses, the key seems to be to proceed without killing enemies as much as possible, demanding a more stealth approach.
Spy Drops is planned to be released for Switch and PC but the date is still uncertain, the game will be exhibited in a playable form at the incoming Bit Summer Drift which will be held in Kyoto from 19 to 21 July 2024.
